Here are some FAQs about Omega Phi Alpha
What is a "Service Sorority?":
A "service sorority" is different from traditional social sorority because our main focus is service rather than the social "pillar." We still maintain all the benefits of a sisterhood: friendship, leadership & sisterly bonds, but we maintain a focus of community service.
Is OPhiA part of the Panhellenic Council?:
While Omega Phi Alpha as a National organization is not a member of Panhellenic Council, some chapters are local members of the council. Currently, the Alpha Beta Chapter of OPA is not a member. This allows us to offer different opportunities to our members and much lower dues.
How much does OPhiA cost?:
As a service sorority, our dues are very low. We never turn anyone away for a true financial emergency, so please contact us if you're interested in joining, no matter what your financial situation. Join us at Rush to learn more about our dues.
What do I do as a "Pledge"?:
Pledging takes 10 weeks. During the pledge period, you learn about OPhiA, do exciting service projects, participate in Pledge-specific meetings, have the chance to join a Pledge Executive Board and get to know your Active and Pledge SISTERS!! Most importantly, OPhiA believes in a fun, uplifting and encouraging RUSH period. This is your chance to show your commitment to the sorority and our service projects.
To further the safe, fun environment OPhiA believes in, any sort of hazing is STRICTLY prohibited by national and local laws, so you know you're in a safe environment as a Pledge.
Can I be in other organizations while in OPhiA?:
YES! Many members are involved in various organizations at Ole Miss. From time to time conflicts may arise, so perspective members should look into these conflicts to see if they allow members to be active in both at the same time as OPhiA does require a time commitment.
What types of service does OPhiA participate in?:
OPhiA participates in multiple types of community service, incuding projects that benefit the Oxford community, the Ole Miss campus, and national organizations.
